I had a great 2007 Chevrolet Silverado with the new body style and the 5.3 engine years ago and at 180,000 miles, it was using about 3 - 4 quarts of oil between oil changes and I couldn't figure out where it was going, because it never leaked and the engine never had any blue smoke. I sold it and bought a 2011 Silverado with the 4.8 and at 180,000 miles, it was doing just about the same thing. I sold it and drove a Suburban 4X4 for a while, and ended up with a low oil pressure issue, which in 20/20 hindsight I now know was probably the oil pump pick-up tube "O" ring, but I was not about to spend a fortune on dropping the front end and dropping the oil pan, so I sold it, too. I drove a Dodge Caravan for a while doing Roadside Rescue, and was never happy because I have always been a GM Truck kind of guy. When the A/C Evaporator core went out, I traded it in at a dealership on a very clean 2011 GMC Sierra Crew Cab 4X4 with the 5.3 and I just decided if it used oil I would live with it because I love my GM Trucks. I have loved my truck even though I had to put about a quart of oil in every two - three weeks. Recently, it started tapping badly and the Traction Control and Stabilitrac lights and messages were coming up and had a heavy miss on #7 cylinder. This time, I just happened to check YouTube and I was amazed at the stories I saw and didn't realize this was such a common problem. The best video I saw, by far, was yours, and I bought the VLOC kit and even went to Harbor Freight and bought air scaler for $20 and everything went exactly as it did for you on the video. I also installed a new Dorman valve cover on the driver's bank and even drilled a few extra bleed holes for good measure like you did. The only thing extra that I did was that I took advantage of it being apart and installed a two-foot long remote adaptor so that I could run the oil pressure sensor out next to the power brake booster, because I had already replaced it three times in two years. I always used AC Delco parts but there seems to be an inherent problem with those sensors. If I ever have to replace it again, it's right out there where I can easily get to it.
